ingeo.jpgAhhh...the famous parental command at the dinner table has now become a reality!  I had the opportunity to meet Larry Grider, CEO of Engro, at a Tuesday morning small business meeting.  Larry's company sells "innovative products that are changing the way we live".  The main product that might change the way you live is Ingeo, a fiber developed by Cargill and Dow Chemical, that is made from corn and is one of the most significant developments in the textile industry of our generation.

Ingeo is made entirely of corn (I know, the starch references are many), and is considered to be the world's first and only "greenhouse neutral" polymer and achieves a 68 percent reduction in fossil fuel use compared with traditional plastics.  Why do you think they call it poly-ester?  According to Engro's website, "Ingeo corn base-based products are stronger, better insulating, and less bulky than cotton and easier to maintain than wool or silk, wick moisture from the skin and help the body regulate its temperature, will not fade and resists wrinkles, will not shrink and do not absorb odors, are soil resistant, hypoallergenic, and naturally anti-microbial, will not retain moisture and are biodegradable!"  Whew!  All that from those golden kernals!

If you are interested in Ingeo or any of the other Engo products, drop Larry a line and tell him that Green Dean sent ya!  Larry, if you are listening, Green Dean is a size medium and doesn't like his corn or his clothes creamed!
