gfi.jpgStarting September 7th, Grounds for Improvement returns to the DIY Network!  Set your TIVOs and DVRs!  Go to the DIY Network for air dates and showtimes.  So, what does that have to do with green?  Aha, good question!  Although the 500 series was shot almost two years ago there is a plethora of green products and information.  For example...

in Episode 504 "Welcome to the Jungle", which airs on Septemeber 8th, we used nothing but recycled rubber mulch!  Obviously there is an incredible environmental benefit to using recycled rubber mulch, but we love it for the fun colors!  Rubber mulch is non-toxic, won't fade and will save you money over hardwood mulch!  Now, I LOVE to mulch, but I know that there are some (okay, most) that do not share the same passion for wheelbarrels!  Rubber mulch will save you time because you don't need to mulch as often and it will save you money because you don't need to mulch as often.  Did I mention that you don't need to mulch as often?

While on the subject of recycled rubber, in Episode 505 "Where the Rubber Hits the Road", we used a recycled rubber paver for a front sidewalk!  Rubbersidewalks is a great product especially in areas where trees and tree roots are an issue.  They DO work in extreme cold and every 400 square feet of Rubbersidewalks keeps over 2 tons of rubber tire waste from going to the landfill!

In the 500 series, the GFI designs included native plants, FSC certified lumber, butterfly gardens and bamboo fencing!  So, keep those recorders recording and look for all of the green products and technology!
